Z's lose to Iowa

Game Keys -Iowa first basemen Micah Hoffpauir drove in three runs to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 7-4 victory over the Zephyrs in front of 5,074 at Principal Park in Des Moines. The Cubs John Ford Griffin also drove in a pair or runs.

Zephyr starter Clay Hensley allowed three first inning runs facing all nine batters in the inning. The right hander settled down but suffered the defeat. Iowa starter Mitch Atkins pitched seven innings allowing two runs and picked up the win.

The Z's offense was led by Gookie Dawkins drilling a two run home run and a solo shot from Alejandro De Aza. The Z's rallied in the 9th loading the bases with three walks but Vince Perkins stuckout Dawkins to end the game. Perkins earned the save.

Iowa hands the Zephyrs their second consecutive loss. New Orleans is 2-2 on the 15 game roadtrip.

Game Notes: The loss officially eliminated the Zephyrs from playoff contention. Lee Mitchell rejoined the team from Jacksonville. Michael Ryan was placed on the disabled list.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Iowa Cubs wrap up the five game series on Tuesday night with the final game of the five game set. The Zephyrs will start RH Brian Lawrence (5-4, 5.40) against Iowa RH JR Mathes (12-6, 5.40) RADIO: AM 690 WIST
