August 24, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Brian Buchanan of the Omaha Royals the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week and Wade LeBlanc of the Portland Beavers the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for August 17-23.

Buchanan went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI in a 13-7 win against the Tacoma Rainiers on August 20. The outfielder is hitting .252 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 32 games for the Royals this season. The Miami native was selected by the New York Yankees out of the University of Virginia in the first round (24th overall) of the 1994 MLB draft.

Selected by the San Diego Padres out of the University of Alabama in the second round of the 2006 MLB draft, LeBlanc is in his second season with the Beavers. In his first start last week he went six innings and allowed one earned run and struck out five and walked one to get the win over Omaha. In his next start against Sacramento he tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out seven and walked one to get his second win of the week. LeBlanc was twice named PCL Pitcher of the Week in 2008 (May 26-June 1 and July 28-Aug. 3).
