New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release


Memphis scored three runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the New Orleans Zephyrs 5-2 on a cool evening at Autozone Park. The Z's opened the contest with a pair of runs in the first with RBI Singles from John Lindsey and Michael Ryan. Memphis answered with a solo home run from Tyler Green in the bottom of the inning. Memphis used four hits and a walk in the third to score three runs to take a 4-2 lead. New Orleans would rally several occasions coming up empty handed stranding 12 men on base. New Orleans out hit the Birds 9-8 but Memphis used five pitchers to get out of trouble to win the game. Blake Hawksworth earns the win while Z starter Daniel Barone suffered the loss pitching just 2 2/3 innings. Chris Perez pitched around a leadoff walk in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Game Notes: The Z's added infielder Andy Gonzalez from the Marlins. The 27 year old has played parts of three seasons in the Majors with the White Sox, Indians and Marlins. To make room Matt Craig was assigned to Double A Jacksonville. The start of the game was delayed by 19 minutes due to short rainstorm prior to first pitch. Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Redbirds meet for the second game of the series at 7PM Tuesday at AutoZone Park. New Orleans will start RH Ryan Tucker against RH Clayton Mortensen. RADIO: AM 690 WIST.
