April 13, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox lost to the Reno Aces 10-2 in the first game of a four game set Monday night in front of 1,475 fans at Security Service Field.

The Aces jumped out to an early lead scoring five runs in the first inning. Left Fielder Brandon Watson led the charge for the Aces going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. Reno added insurance runs throughout the game as they knocked out 15 hits and drew six walks.

Right handed pitcher Brandon Hynick (0-1) never could get comfortable getting pulled after just 3.1 innings in which he surrendered seven runs, all earned, on seven hits, while tying his career-high with four walks. The rest of the Sky Sox pitching fared no better. Combined, the pitching staff had four wild pitches, three by reliever Franklin Nunez, and two balks, one by Hynick and one by Scott Munter.

The Aces pitching, by comparison was much better. Starting pitcher Cesar Valdez (1-0) went five innings giving up only one run on six hits and recording three strikeouts in route to his first Triple-A win. Reliever Esmerling Vasquez was equally impressive striking out three straight in the sixth after giving up a single to Sky Sox first baseman, Dan Ortmeier. Ortmeier was one of the only bright spots for the Sky Sox extending his hitting streak to four games going 2-for-4 with an RBI. The rest of the Sky Sox could not capitalize on their opportunities leaving a total of ten runners stranded on base.

Game two of the four game series will be tomorrow night at 6:05 PM where RHP Alan Johnson (NR) will take the mound for the Sox versus LHP Evan MacLane (NR) of the Aces.
