Brett Carroll homered and doubled twice, and the Zephyrs bullpen covered nearly eight innings in relief of an injured Brian Lawrence as the Z's took the finale of a five-game series from the Albuquerque Isotopes, 8-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
With one out in the first, Cameron Maybin reached on an infield single and advanced to second on an error by 'Topes starter Seth Etherton (3-4). Mike Lamb followed with an RBI double, to put the Z's ahead.
Lawrence retired Jamie Hoffman to lead off the top of the second, but left the game during the next at-bat with tightness in his lower back.
Matt Peterson entered the game and went on to allow three hits and two walks over 2 2/3 innings, earning his third win of the year.
The Z's added to their lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs on four hits, highlighted by a RBI double by Scott Cousins.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Carroll launched a one-out homer, his fifth of the year, plating Mark Saccomanno and giving New Orleans a 5-0 lead.
Albuquerque found the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the seventh as Trent Oeltjen reached on an error by Mark Saccomanno, scoring Justin Sellers.
The Isotopes would add to their total in the following frame as A.J. Ellis single and Hoffman scored on a fielding error by Maybin.
New Orleans tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after Cousins led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by Maybin, who scored on a sacrifice fly by Carroll.
Scott Strickland loaded the bases in the ninth, and gave up an RBI single to Hoffman, who had three hits on the afternoon. But Strickland bounced back to strike out Restovich and A.J. Ellis to end the contest, giving the Zephyrs the series win.
The Zephyrs hit the road for eight games against Colorado Springs and Salt Lake, starting with a four-game tilt against the Sky Sox on Wednesday. Lefty Wes Whisler (1-5, 7.22) starts for NOLA, opposing fellow lefty Josh Muecke (3-6, 6.10). First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
