Clinton LumberKings News Release

Burlington, IA - Thanks in part to a huge night from Janelfry Zorrilla, the LumberKings are off to a 1-0 start in the second half with an 11-6 win over the Burlington Bees on Thursday night at Community Field.

Zorrilla was 4-for-5 with a grand slam, two runs scored and five driven in. Zorrilla, who wasn't in the original lineup, was inserted an hour before first pitch after Guillermo Pimentel was scratched.

Zorrilla's grand slam was the first hit by a LumberKing this year and gave Clinton a 6-0 lead in the 3rd inning.

Burlington chipped away at the lead and scored three in the fourth, two in the sixth and then tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

LumberKings' starter Anthony Vasquez turned in a solid outing but the bullpen failed in getting him his first win of 2013. The southpaw allowed four runs (two earned) in 5 2/3 innings.

After Burlington tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, Clinton's offense turned it on.

The Bees turned to closer Robert Powell who allowed a one-out triple to Ketel Marte. Burlington elected to intentionally walk Dario Pizzano to try and set up a double play. It backfired when Powell hit Taylor Ard to load the bases.

Zorrilla then delivered his fourth hit of the night to give the LumberKings a 7-6 lead. After Tyler Marlette popped out for the second out, Jordy Lara delivered two insurance runs with a single to left.

Gaby Guerrero followed Lara's two-run single with one of his own to make it 11-6. Burlington went quietly in the bottom of the ninth against Grady Wood.

Outside of Zorrilla, Clinton got multi-hit games from Marte, Dario Pizzano and Timmy Lopes.

Game two of the series is Friday night in Burlington. Clinton turns to right-hander Matt Anderson (3-5, 4.55) and Burlington sends left-hander Brandon Love (1-3, 4.98) to the mound. First pitch is set for 6:30 CT.
