Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Eric Haase belted two home runs and drove in three runs to lead the Lake County Captains to an 11-3 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Thursday night in the second half season opener for both teams.

Lake County hit five home runs in the game including three in the second inning as they raced out to an early 8-0 lead by the middle of the third. Erik Gonzalez hit a three-run homer in the second to go along with solo shots by Haase and Logan Vick. Dorssys Paulino connected on a solo home run in the sixth and Haase added a two-run shot in the ninth.

The Dragons trailed 9-0 before Tanner Rahier's two-run single in the bottom of the seventh spoiled the Captains' shutout bid. Junior Arias launched a tremendous towering home run in the bottom of the ninth to conclude Dayton's scoring. It was Arias' eighth homer of the year.

Dragons starting pitcher Nick Travieso (1-2) worked the first two innings and suffered the loss. He allowed six runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Joel Bender replaced Travieso to start the third inning and tossed four frames, allowing six hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts. Jesus Adames pitched two perfect innings and Wandy Peralta worked the ninth, allowing one hit and two runs with a walk and a strikeout.

The Dragons finished with seven hits. Arias and Beau Amaral each had two.

The Dragons will host the Captains in the second game of the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Jackson Stephens, a 2012 draft pick from Oxford, Alabama, will get the start for the Dragons and make his Midwest League debut. Luis DeJesus (1-7, 6.38) will start for Lake County. The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372). All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.

Notes: The five home runs by Lake County tied a club record for a Dragons opponent. It had happened three previous times in Dragons history, most recently in 2006 when Clinton hit five homers against the Dragons.
