Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators announced today that the Washington Nationals #1 draft pick has been placed on the Senators active roster. Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was moved to Harrisburg from Savannah where Zimmerman played four games to start his pro career.

Zimmerman was the fourth overall selection in the free-agent draft earlier this month. The Nationals announced, at the time of the draft, that he would start in Harrisburg. That plan was changed and Zimmerman went to Savannah. While in Savannah, Zimmerman appeared in four games and hit .471 on 8 for 17 hitting. He had two doubles, one triple, two home runs and six RBI's before his promotion today.

Zimmerman recently finished his junior season at University of Virginia. Just a few days ago, Ryan was selected as an All-American by Baseball America and by the College Baseball writers.

The Senators plan to introduce Zimmerman at a Press Conference at 5:00 P.M. today at Commerce Bank Park. According to team officials, Zimmerman will be in the line-up Saturday night for the Senators.

The Senators also placed Billy Martin on the disabled list with a hand injury. The Senators roster stands at 22 active players, one below the maximum limit currently allowed by the Eastern League.
