Round Rock Express News Release

The Round Rock Express pitching staff had been absolutely dominating coming into Sunday's game with the Midland RockHounds, riding a 22 inning scoreless streak. Unfortunately for the Express, Mike Ziegler picked up on the vibe.

Ziegler gave up only a pair of first inning runs and then went on to shutout Round Rock over the next six innings to lead Midland to a 5-2 win in front of 9,743 at The Dell Diamond. The loss snaps a four-game Express winning streak.

The two teams traded runs in the first inning and were tied, 2-2, going to the second. However, a Dan Johnson single off of Eric Ireland broke the tie. Up 3-2 in the fourth, Nick Swisher provided the final runs of the evening with a two-run home run to right to provide the final 5-2 margin.

Ziegler took over from there. He was Mercedes efficient after that, mowing through his seven innings of work in only 77 pitches. He departed after giving up only five hits and faced one more than the minimum in the second through sixth innings.

The offensive highlights were few, although Chris Burke did have a 2 for 4 night. Cheyenne Janke also had a strong relief outing, throwing four scoreless innings, while allowing only one hit and striking out five.

Ireland (1-2) got the loss and Ziegler moved to 7-6.

The series will continue Monday at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES Outfielder Eric Cole was promoted to Triple-A New Orleans after the game. He was hitting .274 with six home runs and 32 RBIs coming into Sunday.
