Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Clay Condrey threw seven scoreless innings and Tagg Bozied went 3 for 4 with two doubles as the Portland Beavers defeated the Edmonton Trappers, 5-1 before 6,996 Saturday night at PGE Park.

In seven innings, Condrey (1-0) allowed five hits, no runs and registered six strikeouts.

Condrey's seven shutout innings extended his scoreless streak to 12 innings after blanking Tacoma through five on June 30. Saturday's performance was Condrey's second start with the Beavers since being sent from the Padres on a major league rehab assignment earlier this week.

With the win, the Beavers (45-45) climbed back to .500 and moved within a half game of first place Edmonton (43-42) in the North Division playoff race.

Bozied got a three-run seventh inning started with a double to left and made it home after Mark Quinn singled. Alex Fernandez stepped up to the plate next and hit a two-run shot to right, putting the Beavers on top, 5-0.

Bozied went 3 for 4 on the night, including two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Bernie Castro led off the first inning with a double to left. Bozied followed with a single, sending Castro home and making it a 1-0 ballgame after one.

The Beavers added on another run in the fourth after Ben Risinger singled, Jermaine Clark walked and Yamid Haad hit an RBI-double down the left-field line, scoring Risinger.

Edmonton made it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases after Matt Cepicky hit an RBI single to score Ryan Balfe, but Cliff Bartosh came on for the save.

Britt Reames (3-10) got the loss for the Trappers, giving up two runs on seven hits in six innings.
