Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - The game may not have carried much weight for the Express, but it meant an extended season for New Orleans.
With a 10-2 win over Round Rock at The Dell Diamond on Sunday, the Zephyrs clinched the Pacific Coast League American Southern Division with just one game remaining in the regular season.
Jason Lane finished 2-for-3 with the Express' first run and two of the team's three hits, and Brooks Conrad launched a solo homer to start the bottom of the ninth. Round Rock right-hander Juan Gutierrez allowed six runs on eight hits, five walks and a strikeout over 4 2/3 innings.
New Orleans took a 1-0 lead early on and extended it with five hits in the top of the fifth. Gutierrez picked up a strikeout to start the frame, but gave up four singles as the lead moved to 3-0.
An error, two walks later and a sacrifice fly later and the lead had grown to five runs. One final single pushed the lead to 6-0 for the Zephyrs.
Round Rock scored its first run when Lane doubled and scored in the bottom of the seventh.
The two teams meet for the regular-season finale Monday at 7:05 p.m. Random fans will receive special Round Rock gear during the game and fireworks will immediately follow. Tune in on 1260 AM, 1530 AM or at www.roundrockexpress.com.
