Sidewinders Lose Wild One To RiverCats

Tucson, Ariz. - The Tucson Sidewinders dropped their second consecutive game to the Sacramento RiverCats Saturday night, 12-11.

The Sidewinders took an early lead in the bottom of the first when Ronnie Merrill double with one out. One out later Jamie D'Antona doubled in Merrill. Carlos Gonzalez walked and Matt Erickson followed with an RBI single. Jarred Ball doubled to score D'Antona and moved Erickson to third. Kazuhito Tadano threw a wild pitch that scored Erickson to make the score 4-0 after one.

The River Cats scored their first run of the game in the top of the second when Gregorio Petit doubled to score Brian Stavisky to bring the score to 4-1.

Sacramento took the lead in the top of the third. Richie Robentt led the inning off with a single. After Nick Blasi struck out, J.D. Closser walked to put runners on first and second. Daric Barton singled to load the bases. Stavisky singled to score Robnett and Closser. Kevin Melillo doubled to score Barton and make the score 4-4. Petit singled to score Stavisky and Melillo to give the River Cats a 6-4 lead.

The Sidewinders took back the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Romero reached on an error, and D'Antona doubled to put runner on second and third. Gonzalez singled to score Romero and move D'Antona over to third. Erickson walked and on a wild pitch D'Antona came in home to tie the score. Ball followed with an RBI double to score Gonzalez and give the Sidewinders a 7-6 lead.

In the top of the sixth the River Cats regained the lead on a two-run double by Blasi that knocked Enrique Gonzalez out of the game. Sacramento added another run off LHP Evan MacLane when Barton singled to score Blasi for a 9-7 lead.

Danny Putnam hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to extend Sacramento's lead to 10-7.

The River Cats piled on some more in the top of the eighth when they loaded the bases with no outs after two singles and an error. Stavisky earned an RBI when he grounded out to score Blasi. Melillo hit an RBI single to make knock MacLane out of the game and give the River Cats a 12-7 lead.

The Sidewinders attempted to come back in the bottom of the ninth on RBI doubles by D'Antona and Gonzalez to bring the score to 12-9. After an Erickson single, Ball doubled to score Gonzalez to make it 12-10. RHP Julio Manon threw a wild pitch to score Erickson and make it a 12-11 game with two outs. Rich Thompson reached on a walk and moved to second on a fielder's indifference to put the winning run in scoring position, but Callaspo struck out looking to end the game.
