Memphis Redbirds News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - A late Memphis rally fell short in Nashville's 5-4 win over the Redbirds Sunday night at AutoZone Park in front of 15,208 fans.
With two outs and the tying run on third base Sounds center fielder Laynce Nix made a diving catch on Tagg Bozied's fly ball to rob Bozied and the Redbirds. The catch ended a ninth-inning rally and conserved the victory for Nashville. Memphis had drawn within a run on Brian Barden's RBI-single before Nix's heroics.
Nashville wasted no time scoring four runs in the first inning with Nix's two-run home run capping the rally. Mike Rivera and Jose Macias each knocked in a run apiece and collected two hits. Mike McCoy led Memphis with three hits with Barden driving in two runs. Danny Ardoin scored three runs on three walks for the 'Birds in a losing effort.
Tim Dillard picked up the win for Nashville with five innings of work. The right-hander surrendered three runs on five hits and three walks. Dennis Sarfate notched his fourth save despite a shaky ninth inning. Randy Keisler was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings. The lefty did go 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.
Memphis will wrap up their 2007 Pacific Coast League campaign tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Mike Parisi will be on the hill for the Redbirds and the Sounds will send lefty Zach Jackson to the slab.
