
Zephyrs Rally to Defeat Rainiers, 5-4

TACOMA, Washington -- Jason Alfaro and Raul Chavez each drove home a run to help the New Orleans Zephyrs defeat the Tacoma Rainiers, 5-4 on Monday Night in Tacoma.
Alfaro tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning with an RBI single before Chavez lofted a sacrifice fly in the eighth to put New Orleans ahead. Colin Porter, who had two hits, led off the fifth inning with his fifth homer of the year and Henri Stanley finished with three hits for the Zephyrs, who have won seven of their last eight games. Ken Vining (2-2) allowed a hit and struck out a pair over 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win and Brandon Puffer tossed a perfect ninth inning to notch his fourth save.
Luis Figueroa stroked a two-run double and Mickey Lopez followed with a sacrifice fly to give Tacoma a 3-0 lead in the second inning. J.R. Phillips and Kenny Kelly each collected a pair of hits and a run scored for the Rainiers, who dropped to 20-19 this year at Chaney Stadium. Craig Anderson (5-8) pitched a complete game, but surrendered five runs -- three earned -- and 11 hits to take the loss.
The Zephyrs improved to 6-1 on the road trip and finish the trip on Tuesday in Tacoma at 9:05 P.M. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
