Metairie, LA - The New Orleans Zephyrs raised $5,483 for the Desire NOLA Foundation on Saturday, money which will go towards grants to local small businesses.
The money was raised through a silent auction when fans bid on special jerseys that Zephyrs players and coaches wore during Saturday's game that were colored in the purple & gold of the LSU Tigers. Players individually presented the jerseys to the winning bidders in a post-game ceremony.
The Desire NOLA Foundation provides grants and business development assistance to locally owned businesses that embody the unique culture and ambience of New Orleans.
This is the second year that the Zephyrs and Desire NOLA have partnered to help local businesses, with the Zephyrs players and coaches wearing special jerseys during a game in 2006 as well.
