
Carter Hits Walk-Off Home Run Against Fresno

Tucson, Ariz. - The Tucson Sidewinders stormed back to beat the Fresno Grizzlies Saturday night 9-6 at Tucson Electric Park, on a walk-off three-run home run by Chris Carter.
The Sidewinders put runners on base when Brandon Medders lead off the inning with a walk. Alberto Callaspo popped out to make the first out. Alex Romero followed with a single to left field. Robby Hammock struck out for the second out of the inning. That brought Chris Carter to the plate to allow him to hit his 17th home run of the year.
The Sidewinders were held silent for much of the game Saturday night.
Fresno starting pitcher Travis Blackley kept Tucson at bay allowing only two runs on five hits and two walks in seven innings.
The Sidewinders offense never really got off the ground until Blackley came out of the game. The first run came in the first inning when Callaspo reached on a single moved to second on Romero's sacrifice bunt then scored on Hammock's single.
The second run came in the bottom of the seventh inning after Jamie D'Antona earned a base on balls then scored on Jeff Salazar's double.
The rest of the runs came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Hammock singled in Callaspo and Romero to close the deficit to 6-4. Then with one out, D'Antona doubled in Hammock to make it 6-5.
Matt Erickson extended his hitting streak to 15 games with the game tying double he hit in the bottom of the eighth inning making it 6-6
Greg Smith struggled early in the first inning after leadoff man Clay Timpner reached on a throwing error by Erickson. After Smith retired Luis Figueroa on a fly out, Timpner advanced to second on a balk by Smith. Scott McClain followed with a single that scored Timpner. Lance Niekro singled and McClain moved over to third on the play. Smith retired Nate Shierholtz and then gave up a three-run home run to Tomas De La Rosa to make the score 4-0.
Smith continued to struggle in the top of the third inning as De La Rosa hit a double to leadoff the inning. Smith struck out Fred Lewis to record the first out. Eliezer followed with his first home run as a Grizzly making the score 6-1. Smith finished out the inning but Dustin Nippert replaced him in the top of the fourth.
RHP Casey Daigle pinch-hit for Nippert in the bottom of the fifth inning but wound up striking out.
