SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Casey Smith hit a two-out bases-loaded double to cap off a four-run bottom of the ninth rally as the Salt Lake Bees defeated the Portland Beavers 5-4 Saturday night at Franklin Covey Field.

The Beavers handed a 4-1 lead to closer Scott Cassidy in the bottom of the ninth inning and after retiring the first batter, gave up a double to Kendry Morales. Gregory Porter singled Morales home to bring the Bees within two runs. After a Tommy Murphy single and a walk to Bobby Wilson loaded the bases, Smith crushed the first pitch he saw for a bases-clearing double to win the game.

Stauffer, who was vying for his fourth victory in five starts, struck out four and walked just one. Brian Myrow was 2-for-4 with a home run and Craig Stansberry was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Beavers.

Myrow gave Stauffer an early lead with an opposite field home run, his 13th of the year, off Salt Lake starter Kasey Olenberger in the top of the second inning.

The Beavers would add to their lead in the top of the fifth when Craig Stansberry singled home Keoni Ruth from third base. Peter Ciofrone then drove in Luke Carlin to give Portland a 3-0 advantage.

The Beavers would add another run in the top of the sixth inning when Royce Huffman scored on a groundball from shortstop Ray Chang.

Stauffer's shutout bid came to a halt in the bottom of the sixth inning when Nick Gorneault clubbed his 15th home run of the season.

The Beavers continue their series with Salt Lake, Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Franklin Covey Field.
