
Schumaker leads 'Birds over Royals

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis scored six runs in the last three innings and came back to beat Omaha 7-5 Saturday night in front of 15,273 fans at AutoZone Park.
Skip Schumaker led the way for the Redbirds with four RBI on the night. His three-run double in the seventh inning ignited a four-run inning that put the home team in front. One batter later Jarrett Hoffpauir knocked in Schumaker with a single that delivered the lead. Matt Pagnozzi tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning with single to score Nick Stavinoha, who scored twice and had two hits.
Kelvin Jimenez picked up the win out of the Memphis bullpen after giving up one run on two hits in less than an inning of work. Redbirds starter Randy Keisler pitched 6.1 innings and allowed four runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts. Chris Perez nailed down his third save with the âBirds with a scoreless ninth. Kenny Ray was pinned with the loss for Omaha after giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits in 1.1 innings. Former University of Tennessee standout Luke Hochevar started for the Royals and gave up four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings but did not factor in the decision.
The Redbirds will give the ball to Blake Hawksworth in tomorrow afternoon's game scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Omaha will counter with Tyler Lumsden on the bump.
