New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Tonight the New Orleans Zephyrs found themselves coming off of their longest road trip in franchise history, and Clay Hensley helped the Z's get re-acquainted with New Orleans in winning fashion.

Hensley was outstanding tonight for six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits while striking out nine to improve his record to 9-4 on the year.

It seemed to be a pitcher's duel up to the bottom of the fourth, when Andy Jenkins hit his first career Triple-A home run. Jenkins, promoted from Double-A Jacksonville earlier in the week, hit a blast over the wall in left-center field off Nashville starter Chris Cody (8-8) to put the Z's ahead.

The Zephyrs offense carried over into the fifth inning as well, where the Zephyrs would pile on three more runs. John Raynor singled to start the inning off, and after Dave Matranga was hit by a pitch, Gaby Sanchez delivered a three-run shot to give New Orleans a 4-0 lead.

The Z's bullpen was shaky in preserving the lead, as Willie Glen surrendered three runs in the seventh. Jay Buente inherited a bases-loaded jam and walked Hernan Iribarrren to force in a run.

But A.J. Battisto came on to retire Jon Knott as the Zephyrs escaped the inning with the lead. Battisto then retired all three batters he faced in the eighth, including two by strikeout, and Matt DeSalvo retired the side in order in the ninth to record his third save.

The Zephyrs and Sounds continue the season-ending series on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., with RH Brian Lawrence taking the mound for the Z's, opposed by RH Mike Jones.
