Metairie, LA - John Buck scored on a sacrifice fly from Royce Huffman to break a scoreless tie as the New Orleans Zephyrs (28-19) defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes (20-26) 2 to 0 on Thursday Night in front of 4,298 at Zephyr Field.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth Isotopes reliever Ozwaldo Mairena walked Buck. Colin Porter doubled to right to put runners on second and third. Vladimir Nunez the replaced Mairena as Huffman lined the 1-1 pitch to right to score Buck. Porter advanced to third on the play and scored on a wild pitch from Nunez.
Mike Gallo (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching the eighth inning not allowing a hit. Kirk Bullinger picked up his sixth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth. Zephyrs starter Jonathan Johnson pitched seven innings allowing no runs on seven hits striking out eight while walking only two.
Mairena (1-1) suffered the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief allowing both runs.
The Zephyrs open an eight game road trip at Salt Lake on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs calling the action.
