May 22, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Edmonton Trappers News Release

Second baseman Brian Dallimore was 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI as the Fresno Grizzlies downed the Edmonton Trappers 11-2 Thursday afternoon at Grizzlies Stadium. With the win the Grizzlies avoided being swept by the Trappers for the second time this season in Fresno. The Trappers had won the first seven meetings between the two clubs at Grizzlies Stadium and had an eight-game winning streak dating back to last season. Edmonton had outscored Fresno 38-17 in the first seven games at Grizzlies Stadium and had held the Grizzlies to three runs or less in six of the seven contests. The Trappers still lead the season series between the two clubs 9-2 with a five-game series remaining at TELUS Field in July. By taking three of the four games in the series Edmonton has moved its overall record to 22-22. The club began the day in second place in the North Division of the Pacific Coast League, two games behind the Portland Beavers. The Trappers will begin a four-game series in Colorado Springs against the Sky Sox on Friday night and then return home on Tuesday to start an eight-game homestand against the New Orleans Zephyrs.

Edmonton starter Tim Drew (0-5) was roughed up for the second straight time on Thursday afternoon. Drew got through the first inning unscathed, but then yielded a three-run double to his counterpart, right-hander Ryan Jensen, in the bottom of the second inning. Lance Niekro started the rally by doubling with one out in the frame. Catcher Guillermo Rodriguez singled and shortstop Carlos Hernandez drew a walk to load the bases for Jensen, who smashed a two-bagger into the gap in left center field. The Trappers had a chance to get back into the game in the top of the third inning when Drew reached on an error and Scott Hodges and Jeremy Ware each drew walks loading the bases for catcher Edwards Guzman. However, Jensen got Guzman to fly out to center field ending Edmonton's only chance to get back into the game.

Drew yielded six runs in the fourth inning as the Grizzlies sent 10 men to the plate and knocked the right-hander out of the game. Niekro again started the rally, this time with a walk. Rodriguez and pinch-hitter Jeff Urban both singled to load the bases for center fielder Jason Ellison, who singled to right field, plating Niekro. Todd Linden singled, driving in Rodriguez and Dallimore drew a bases loaded walk, scoring Urban with Fresno' s sixth run. Hansel Izquierdo then replaced Drew, but immediately surrendered a two-run double to Francisco Santos and an RBI single to Tony Torcato to give the Grizzlies a nine-run lead. All nine of the runs were charged to Drew. Clay Bellinger added a solo home run off reliever Anthony Ferrari in the eighth inning and Dallimore capped the scoring for Fresno with an RBI single. Edmonton avoided being shutout for the third time this season with two runs in the top of the ninth. Luis Figueroa's double plated Valentino Pascucci with the first run and Peter Bergeron added an RBI single that scored Figueroa to round things out.
