New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Mike Parisi scattered five hits over six innings, and Jarrett Hoffpauir and Nick Stavinoha provided all the run support the Memphis Cardinals would need in a 2-0 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday. Stavinoha, a former LSU Tiger, drove in the Redbirds' first run in the second inning after a leadoff double by Josh Phelps. Not long after, his wife called Zephyr Field to inform him that she was expecting a baby girl, a message that was relayed to Stavinoha via the scoreboard.
The Zephyrs collected seven hits, but went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. They had runners at second base with nobody out in both the sixth and eighth innings, but failed to push across a run.
Z's starter Tony Armas (0-1) took the loss after seeing his pitch count rise into the 70's by the third inning. Armas got through five innings and surrendered one run on five hits with one walk and five strikeouts, three of which came against Colby Rasmus.
The season-opening homestand concludes Thursday night when the Zephyrs battle the Redbirds at 7:00 p.m.
