Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

HICKORY, N.C. - Kannapolis first baseman Corey Zangari blasted his second home run of the season, but the Intimidators couldn't overcome a 7-run sixth inning by Hickory, falling 10-2 on Saturday night at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory.

Zangari finished 1-for-4 while fellow prospect Micker Adolfo went 1-for-4 with a ninth inning single in his Class A debut. Adolfo was promoted from Extended Spring Training to Kannapolis earlier in the day.

Hickory's Jonathan Hernandez (1-1) worked 6.0 innings to earn the win, avenging an April 10 loss to the Intimidators. He allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Johan Juan tossed the final 3.0 innings for the save (1). Intimidators starting pitcher Johnathan Frebis (1-1) took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Frebis became the first Kannapolis starter to work into the sixth inning, however he did not record an out.

Tyler Sullivan led off the game with a double and later scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Zangari, the White Sox sixth round pick in the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft, added a solo home run (2) in the third inning.

Trailing 2-0, Hickory jumped ahead in the fourth. Frebis recorded two outs before walking back-to-back batters and surrendering a first-pitch home run to Frandy De La Rosa (2), which put the Crawdads ahead, 3-2.

Hickory chased Frebis from the game en route to a 7-run sixth that featured three Kannapolis errors and five Crawdads hits as 12 batters stepped up to the plate during the inning. Jaider Rocha took over for Frebis with two on and no outs. After a run-scoring error by third baseman Cody Daily, Rocha struck out a batter before Eduard Pinto added an RBI-single for a 5-2 lead.

Jose Almonte reached first base on catchers interference, contacting catcher Seby Zavala with his swing. Zavala was lifted from the game for Casey Schroeder following the play. Andy Ibanez added a two-run double as part of the Crawdads' big inning, and Yeyson Yrizarri's base hit drove in a run and ended Rocha's night. Ryan Hinchley took over on the mound and ended the inning.

Hinckley worked 2 and 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three.

The Intimidators wrap up this four-game series on Sunday afternoon as RHP Luis Martinez (0-1, 3.60 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Hickory's RH Erik Swanson (0-0, 0.00) at 6 p.m. The team returns to Kannapolis on Thursday, April 21, when the Intimidators host Delmarva for a four-game series.
