New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - All three of the Revolution Academy's youth teams were home last weekend, going a combined 1-2-0 against FC Bolts Celtic at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, May 19. The Under-18s and Under-16s each suffered losses to their Boston-based rivals - 3-2 and 1-0, respectively - while the Under-14s earned a 3-1 victory.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s suffered a 3-2 loss to FC Bolts Celtic on Sunday. After a fifth-minute own goal by Bolts goalkeeper David Price gave the Revs an early lead, Matthew Callahan equalized for the visitors in the 26th minute, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1. Matt Nyeayea (Worcester, Mass.) then scored an unassisted goal in the 65th minute, beating Price with a low shot from 20 yards out. The Bolts responded with a pair of quick goals, however, Matthew Dias Costa and Alex Ainscough finding the back of the net in the 66th and 69th minutes, respectively. Now 13-5-2 (41 pts.), the U18s are ranked third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's East Conference with 2.05 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Bolts Celtic on Sunday. Following a scoreless first half, Jack Doran put the Bolts ahead with a goal in the 56th minute. Unable to find an equalizer, the Revs were handed their third shutout loss of the season - all three of which have been 1-0 games. U14s Matt Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) and Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) made substitute appearances during the game, while goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) made the roster, but did not see any action. With their 10-4-6 (36 pts.) record, the U16s are currently fifth in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's East Conference with 1.80 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s earned a 3-1 victory against FC Bolts Celtic on Sunday, improving their U.S. Club Soccer record to 13-3-1 (40 pts.). The Revs opened their account in the 29th minute when Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) scored, assisted by Justin Rennicks (S. Hamilton, Mass.). Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) then doubled New England's advantage, finishing a ball from Nick Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) in the 38th minute. On the other side of the break, the Bolts scored in the 48th minute to make it 2-1. Rennicks then added an insurance goal in the 70th minute, converting his penalty kick.
All three youth teams are in action this weekend, with each squad set to play multiple games. The Under-18s and Under-16s will take on the Montreal Impact on Friday, May 24, at Regis College in Weston, Mass., before hosting Revolution Empire at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, May 26. The Under-14s are set to play a minimum of three games during the Needham Memorial Day Tournament and Global Premier Soccer (GPS) Showcase. Playing up an age group in the Under-15 Showcase, the U14s' tournament schedule is available HERE.
