Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo and BBVA Compass renovated a home in Houston's East End today as a continuation of their Building a Better Houston initiative, launched last year to revitalize the neighborhood around BBVA Compass Stadium.
After a kickoff ceremony, approximately 40 volunteers - including Dynamo forward Brian Ching, defenders Corey Ashe and Anthony Arena, and BBVA Compass and Dynamo employees - helped landscape, paint and repair an East End residence.
"The Dynamo and Dynamo Charities are pleased to once again work with BBVA Compass on this very important initiative," said Dynamo President Chris Canetti. "Together, we hope to continue to make an impact on the community, and in particular, the East End."
Home repairs were made through a donation from the BBVA Compass Foundation. The home was selected by Rebuilding Together, a Houston community outreach organization that works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods.
"Due to the efforts of generous volunteers, we were able rehabilitate the home of Mary Irene Gonzalez - a very special East End homeowner," said BBVA Compass President and CEO Manolo Sánchez. "I would like to personally thank all of today's volunteers for their effort in helping make the Gonzalez home sparkle again."
Gonzalez first moved into the home in 1969 and four generations of her family have lived in the East End community. Several improvements were made to the home, with volunteers painting, landscaping and repairing plumbing as well as installing a new roof and constructing a backyard shed.
The Building a Better Houston a campaign was founded last year in the weeks leading up to the opening of BBVA Compass Stadium. For more information on the Building a Better Houston campaign, visit http://www.houstondynamo.com/babh.
