January 19, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
#ITSTARTSHERE - NHL Central Scouting released its midterm rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft on Tuesday, January 19th. Three Youngstown Phantoms, Cam Morrison, Luke McInnis, and Yushiroh Hirano, have made the list. Morrison received the highest marks, coming in at 59th overall amongst North American draft-eligible skaters. The winger is currently tied for the lead in USHL scoring, with 40 points in 35 games.
USHL POW - Phantoms defenseman Connor Moore was named USHL Defenseman of the Week after a six point weekend against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Moore recorded a goal and five assists in the two game series, including assists on all four Phantoms goals on Friday. The Boston College commit is now tied for 7th in USHL scoring amongst defensemen.
NEW FACES - This past weekend, two Youngstown Phantoms made their debut in back-to-back victories over the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Defenseman Ryan Shea, a 4th round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks this past summer, saw his first action of the year after sitting out the first half of the campaign with a collar-bone injury. Forward Jason Cotton donned a Phantoms sweater for the first time Friday, joining Youngstown after forgoing the rest of his freshman season at Northeastern University.
TOP PROSPECTS - Two Youngstown Phantoms, Cam Morrison and Luke McInnis, participated in the 2016 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 12th in Omaha, NE. Both Morrison and McInnis tallied goals in the third period, helping power Team East over Team West by a final score of 6-2. Morrison was the youngest player competing in the showcase. All 40 players chosen to compete in the Top Prospects Game are eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft.
ROAD TRIP - Youngstown will hit the road the next two weekends for a crucial stretch of games against the Bloomington Thunder and the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Both teams are currently above the Phantoms in the Eastern Conference standings, with playoff implications on the line in each series. The RoughRiders currently possess the best record in the USHL, with a 22-9-3 mark on the year.
