Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, Ne. - Tri-City Storm forwards Wade Allison and Walker Duehr have been named to NHL Central Scouting's 2016 midterm rankings.
The list ranks the top North American and international skaters and goalies eligible for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. The draft is set for June 24-25, 2016, at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, home of the Buffalo Sabres.
Out of 210 ranked North American Skaters, Allison checks in at #192 and Duehr is classified as "limited viewing", reserved for "injured players who have not had sufficient viewings to be categorized".
The pairing comprises a group of 38 USHL skaters, 5 USHL goalies and 12 USHL alumni (click here for full list) named to the midterm rankings.
"Wade has had a really strong start to the second half," said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Bill Muckalt. "His line [with Dan Labosky and Alex Limoges] is playing with a lot of chemistry. He had a really strong showing at the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game."
Allison won Team West M.V.P. in the Top Prospects Game after notching a goal and an assist in Team West's 6-2 loss to Team East last Tuesday in Omaha. The native of Myrtle, Manitoba, Canada showcased his talents in front of scouts for all 30 NHL teams.
The Western Michigan commit Allison stands at 6-foot-2 and 206 pounds. Over the last month and a half, the 18-year-old has emerged as a dangerous offensive threat, potting 13 goals and 14 points in his last 15 games. He saved arguably his prettiest goal of the season in the Storm's last home game, a 4-2 win against Lincoln on Jan. 15, deking to the right circle and slinging the puck over the shoulder of Stars goalie Peyton Jones.
"It's been an exciting last week and it's nice to be recognized," said Allison.
A second-year forward for Tri-City, Allison has amassed 19 points in 34 games and ranks second on the squad with 15 goals. He scored his first USHL hat trick on Dec. 18 at Sioux City, including scoring the overtime game-winning goal.
Last season, Allison scored six goals and seven assists in 35 games. Allison was tendered by the Storm in 2014 after skating for the Omaha AAA Lancers, where the right winger led all of midget hockey with 75 goals and 152 points in 2013-14.
Duehr, meanwhile, has emerged as a spark for the Storm since returning from Injured Reserve. In 12 games, Duehr has six goals and 12 points, more than he had in 49 games with the Sioux City Musketeers last season (2g, 5a). In his first game, Dec. 11 against Bloomington, the 6-foot-1, 192-lb. right winger tallied a goal and an assist.
"Walker is a proto-typical power forward with a knack to score," said Muckalt. "He skated really well for a bigger player."
Duehr's point-per-game pace has been aided by the emergence of a strong line with left wing Joe Cipollone and
center Paul Washe. Duehr has three multi-point games, two in the last four games. The native of Sioux Falls, SD scored his first multi-goal game at Waterloo on Jan. 8. He is on a four-game point streak.
Orginally drafted in the eighth round of Phase II of the 2014 USHL Entry Draft by Sioux City, Duehr was acquired on May 6, 2015 from the Musketeers. Duehr is the first Las Vegas Storm alum to join the Tri-City roster since Joey DiBenedetto in 2013-14.
Check out a pair of Storm home games next Friday, Jan. 22, and Saturday, Jan. 23 against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Friday is Sammy's Superheroes Night as the Storm hopes to cure pediatric cancer with Sammy's Superheroes Foundation. Tri-City will wear one-time only specialty jerseys.
Saturday is Casino Night, with fun prizes handed out at the Viaero Center. Plus, it's a Coca Cola Family Four Pack, with four tickets, hot dogs, cokes and chips for $44.
