Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS (December 17th) - The Central Hockey League announced this afternoon that defenseman Kevin Young has been selected as the Oakley CHL Player of the Week for the period ending on December 16th. This is the second player award won by a member of the Thunder this season and first for Young.

Young had a very productive weekend, recording a goal in his last three games and finished with four points in the Thunder's three wins. On Friday, Young scored a power play goal and added an assist in a 6-0 victory over the Fort Worth Brahmas. He followed that up on Saturday night with the game-tying goal that sparked the Thunder's four unanswered run en route to a 5-2 win over Tulsa. He finished off the weekend with a power play goal that sent Sunday's game into a shootout and helped the Thunder to a 4-3 win.

Young currently sits in fourth place for the team-lead in scoring and leads the league in scoring by a defenseman with 24 points (10g, 14a). The White Rock, BC native is in his first full season state-side since turning pro in 2005. Young joined the Thunder last year with eight games remaining in the regular season and helped the team reach the CHL Finals for the first time in 14 years.

Young is the third member of the Thunder to earn a weekly award. RG Flath was named as the player of the week for the period ending on November 25th and Kevin Regan has been named goaltender of the week twice so far this season.

Wichita will travel to Fort Worth to take on the Brahmas on Wednesday night before closing out their mini-series on Friday, December 21st. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena box office or online at www.selectaseat.com.
