Wichita's Kevin Young Named Oakley CHL Player of the Week

GLENDALE, AZ (December 17, 2012) -The Central Hockey League announced today that Wichita Thunder defenseman Kevin Young has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending December 16, 2012.

Young helped his team to a perfect 3-0 week by scoring goals in each game. He started off his strong three game stretch with a goal and an assist in Friday's win over Fort Worth. On Saturday, the White Rock, British Columbia native scored the game-tying goal in the second period of his team's 5-2 victory over Tulsa. The Thunder trailed 2-1 before Young's strike. Finally on Sunday, the d-man once again scored the game-tying goal with his team trailing 3-2 allowing the Thunder to ultimately extend their win streak to four games with a 4-3 shootout win in Fort Worth.

The 6-2, 195-pounder becomes the first defenseman to win the player of the week award this season. Young currently leads all defensemen in scoring with 24 points (10-14$) and over his last 13 games has scored six goals with nine assists.
