The 71st Texas League All-Star Game, presented by Whataburger, is 39 days away.
Thursday, Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers and the Corpus Christi Hooks announced a major sweepstakes in conjunction with the annual Home Run Derby, which unfolds June 26 at 6 p.m. before the All-Star Game at Whataburger Field.
Starting tomorrow, Friday, May 18, those age 21 and up as of June 16 are eligible to enter a drawing for the potential opportunity to win a 2007 Silverado Pickup Truck. Registration runs during regular business hours at the 11 Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers in Alice, Aransas Pass, Corpus Christi, Freer, Kingsville, Mathis, Portland, Refugio, Robstown and Sinton.
Entries will be received through June 16, one per contestant per dealer.
Should one of the Texas League All-Stars participating in the Coastal Bend Chevy Dealers Home Run Derby hit one of two designated targets beyond the fence, one of 11 names (one for each dealership) will be drawn as winner of the Silverado pickup.
The contest is reminiscent of the 2006 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby at Pittsburgh's PNC Park, when Phillies sensation and derby champion Ryan Howard hit a target to win 500 flights on Southwest Airlines for a fan in attendance.
"We are looking forward to a fun and exciting contest," said Mike Child of Corpus Christi's Champion Chevrolet. "The Texas League All-Star festivities are signature events in our city for 2007 and we're pleased to take a part in enhancing the all-star experience."
Said Hooks vice president Ken Schrom: "Our goal is to make the derby the best ever. Our fans deserve that and we're grateful for Chevrolet's support."
