Manriquez double gives 'Riders comeback win

The 'Riders took the opening game of a four game set with the Missions on Thursday night in San Antonio. Salomon Manriquez's two out double in the ninth gave the 'Riders the 6-5 comeback victory over the Missions.

The night got off to a good start for the 'Riders as a four run second inning gave them an early 4-0 lead. With two outs in the inning, Frisco scored four times off of San Antonio starter Mike Ekstrom. Manriquez had a RBI single while Anthony Webster had a two run single in the inning.

The Missions would begin to chip away at the 'Riders lead beginning in the fourth inning when Chase Headley's two run homer off of Frisco starter Luis Mendoza cut the lead in half at 4-2. San Antonio would pull within one at 4-3 when Mike Sansoe singled home Drew Macias in the fifth.

Ekstrom would settle down as he did not allow a run after the second inning. He finished the game pitching seven innings and allowing four runs on six hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Missions took the lead in the sixth inning when Nick Hundley took Mendoza deep to rightfield for a two run homerun and a 5-4 lead. Mendoza would depart after six innings of work allowing five runs on just three hits, but he walked five batters while striking out two.

The 'Riders would rally off of San Antonio closer Neil Jamison (0-2) for two runs in the ninth to take a 6-5 lead. Brandon Boggs drove home the tying run in Travis Metcalf who lead off the inning with a single, his third hit of the night, and stole second base.With two outs Manriquez gave the 'Riders a 6-5 lead with a double that scored Boggs.

Jesse Ingram held the Missions scoreless in the ninth to pick up his ninth save of the year. Jorge Vasquez (1-1) came on to record the final out of the eighth inning to earn the victory.

Metcalf and Manriquez led the RoughRider offense with three hits a piece in the game. The Missions were paced by Sansoe's three hits.

The series continues Friday night when Eric Hurley (5-0, 1.84) tows the rubber for Frisco while San Antonio sends Sean Thompson to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
