York Revolution News Release

(July 8, 2016, Sugar Land, Tx.) - The York Revolution bounced back with an exciting 5-4 victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters on Friday night in front of 5,170 fans at Constellation Field, evening their four-game series at one win apiece. The road trip continues with two more contests in Texas before the Atlantic League All-Star Break.

The Revs fell behind as Sugar Land plated a pair of unearned runs in the second inning. Ricky Hague led off with an infield single and took second on a throwing error. Travis Scott then bunted for a hit to put runners at the corners. The first run came home with one out when Johan Limonta's shallow fly ball glanced off the glove of right fielder Jared Mitchell for an error, and with two outs, Josh Prince added a bloop RBI single to left.

The Revs answered back in the third as Joel Guzman crushed a two-out RBI double high off the left field fence for his league-leading 54th RBI, trimming the deficit to 2-1.

York took its first lead in the fifth as Michael Burgess ripped a two-out, two-run single to right-center on a 3-2 pitch from Skeeters starter Brett Marshall, ending his night after 4.2 innings. The clutch hit plated Travis Witherspoon and Jared Mitchell who had both advanced on a double steal earlier in the inning.

Jeremy Barfield tied the game for Sugar Land with a leadoff home run to left-center, his 13th of the year, in the bottom of the fifth.

Revs starter James Simmons rebounded with a 1-2-3 sixth inning, while his team went back in front an inning later.

Mitchell sparked things in the top of the seventh with a one-out single to left and promptly stole his second base of the night. With two outs, Burgess walked and Andres Perez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kevin Rivers then walked on four pitches to force in a run, giving York the lead. Michael Rockett then greeted reliever Andrew Johnston with an infield single in the hole at short, plating one more for a 5-3 advantage.

Sugar Land threatened right away in the bottom of the seventh as Barfield took a leadoff walk. York reliever Manny Corpas retired the next two batters, but Scott ripped an RBI single to right to make it a one-run game. Kent Matthes then chopped a single into left to move the tying run to second, and Johan Limonta slapped a third straight Skeeters hit into left, but Rockett came up firing with a perfect throw home to nail Scott at the plate and keep the lead intact.

Ricardo Gomez worked a scoreless eighth, stranding the tying run at third after Prince had walked and advanced on a steal and a wild pitch.

Mike DeMark notched his league-leading 21st save with a perfect ninth.

Simmons (6-3) earned the win, allowing three runs (one earned) over six innings for his team-best eighth quality start, twice as many as any other Revs starter on the season.

Sugar Land reliever Robbie Weinhardt (5-5) suffered the loss, charged with York's two runs in the seventh.
