York Revolution News Release
Michael Rockett's two-run homer put the Revs in front, and Mike DeMark set a single-season franchise saves record as the York Revolution came back to beat the New Britain Bees 4-3 on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs (19-12, 59-42) set a franchise record with their 37th comeback win of the season and improve to 13-5 over the Bees (11-21, 47-55) this season.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Jared Mitchell capped an 11-pitch at-bat with a leadoff single, promptly stealing second base on the very next pitch. Joel Guzman brought him home with a double to the warning track in center. After Kevin Rivers bunted Guzman to third, Bryan Pounds plated him with a sac fly to shallow right.
Keith Castillo worked out a walk after falling behind 0-2 in the count, keeping the inning alive and bringing up Rockett. Rockett swatted a 1-0 pitch sky-high over the Arch Nemesis in left field for an emphatic two-run home run to put the Revs on top.
The bullpen kicked it in from there, as Luis Perdomo and Jose Arredondo combined to strand a pair in the seventh. Ricardo Gomez struck out two in a perfect eighth, and Mike DeMark shut down the Bees 1-2-3 in the ninth for the second straight night.
The save was DeMark's 29th of the season, breaking a tie with Rommie Lewis (2014) for the York single-season record. DeMark also ties Lewis for the career saves mark with his 33rd in a Revolution uniform.
"When you're chasing down guys like Rommie Lewis, it's kind of hard to catch guys like that," said DeMark after his record-setting and record-tying save. "He did a lot of great things here in York, so I'm just happy to be in the same group as him.
"All of these [batters] have been a key to my success and the team's successes this year. We just never quit, and it feels like a true championship team."
DeMark and company nailed down the win for Tony Pena (6-7), who earned his first win since June 7 with a quality start of three runs on seven hits in six innings. Jarret Leverett (3-5) took the loss after surrendering four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings.
After Pena and Leverett traded zeroes through the first three, the Bees broke the ice with a pair of two-out runs in the fourth. Greg Golson singled to lead off and stole second base. After a foul out and groundout moved him to third, Jonathan Roof hit a nubber between the mound and the plate for an RBI infield single. Michael Crouse got a bit more on the next pitch, lining a double to left center to score Roof and make it 2-0.
New Britain added another in the top of the sixth as Crouse legged out a fielder's choice, busting up a double play and making it 3-0 to set up the heroics in the bottom of the frame.
Rockett led the way by going 2-for-3 with the two-run homer. He is now batting .301 on the season, including .528 (19-36) with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBIs over his last nine games.
Witherspoon and Mitchell also had two hits for the Revs, while Guzman drove in his league-leading 72nd RBI of the season.
Jovan Rosa went 2-for-4 with a run to lead the Bees, while Crouse drove in a pair of runs.
Notes: The game was finished under protest after Bees shortstop Jake McGuiggan was called out for interference after colliding with Revs first baseman Kevin Rivers on a groundball in the top of the ninth inning. York is now 27-22 when the other team scores first. The Revs are 35-18 in games decided by two runs or fewer, including 22-4 at home and 13-1 in one-run home games. The previous franchise record for comeback wins in a season was 36, set in 2008 and 2014. The York bullpen has allowed just two runs in its last 32.1 innings of work (0.56 ERA) dating back to July 31. The Revs will go for their ninth win in 10 games on Wednesday night as Micah Owings (3-4, 5.04) goes up against the Bees' Daniel Sattler (0-0, 7.71). Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Wednesday is DownTown's birthday, and he is inviting all of his mascot friends to the party. It is also Softball Night presented by TeamSnap, as well as another Kids Eat Free Night presented by PeoplesBank.
