Florence Y'alls
Florence, Kentucky: Game two of a three game set between the Freedom and the Traverse City Beach Bums was a pretty quite game until the end. A hot, sticky night welcomed fans to Champion Window Field, and the heat didn't translate into a lot of runs.
Early on, it looked as if Traverse City was going to dominate Scott Fogelson once again. They scored two in the top of the first, but that was all they would get. Fogelson ended up going seven innings, allowing just two runs on six hits, striking out five while throwing 120 pitches. He recieved a no-decision. Florence got on the board in the sixth, the inning was led off by a Nick Salotti double, which broke up a perfect game by David Nathanson. Andrew Smith drove him home on an RBI single. Florence tied the game in the seventh, Tim Grogan doubled in Beau Blacken to knot the game at two. Neither team scored in the ninth, and the game went to extras. After a double play ended the Bums' chances, Florence took their opportunity. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Greg Stone advanced to second on a groundout by Eddie Gonzalez. After getting to third on a wild pitch, Nate Yoho singled up the middle to deliver a Freedom win, 3-2 in ten innings.
Nate Yoho made his one hit on the night count, he went 1-3 with an RBI. Nick Salotti went 2-4 with a double, RBI, and a run scored. Andrew Smith went 3-4 with an RBI. Beau Blacken went 2-4 with two runs scored. Alain Quijano (3-6) went three innings, allowing just one run to pick up the win for Florence.
The final game of a three game series is tonight at Champion Window Field. It's WEBN/Budweiser Thirsty Thursday. Gates open at 6:05, with the first pitch slated for 7:05. Josh Bruns (5-1) will start for Florence, while Traverse City will send Phil Tognetti (2-3).
