Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Slippery Rock Sliders scored 10 times over the first two innings then cruised to a 12-7 win over the Gateway Grizzlies Thursday night in front of 3,981 at GCS Ballpark.

Despite the Grizzlies' loss, their "magic number" to clinch the West Division drops to four thanks to a loss by Southern Illinois to Windy City Thursday night.

The 12 runs is a season-high for the Sliders (22-56).

Toro Trevino (9-5) suffered the loss, going just 1.2 innings. Trevino allowed nine runs, five earned on six hits. He allowed three home runs, and has now allowed a league-high 17 for the year. He is just 2-5 since the All-Star break. Billy McKinney tossed 4.1 innings in relief. He allowed a single, unearned, run on two hits.

Jeff Vincent paced the offense for the Grizzlies (53-25). Vincent was 2-5 with a four RBIs. He tripled with the bases loaded in the fifth, then singled to drive in a run in the fifth inning. Dustin Roberts was 1-3 with a pair of RBIs. Ryan Saltsgaber was 2-5 with a pair of RBIs. Ryan Sullivan added two hits and two runs.

The Grizzlies failed to hit a home run for the first time in 28 games. Their streak of 27 consecutive games with a home run is believed to tie a professional record. The 2002 Texas Rangers hit a home run in 27 consecutive games as well.
