WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Chicago White Sox announced Sunday that right-handed reliever Michael Ynoa, a key cog to the Winston-Salem bullpen during last season's playoff run, has earned his first career promotion to the Major Leagues.

Ynoa climbs to the Major Leagues despite only one appearance above the High-A level, which took place Thursday for Double-A Birmingham at Jacksonville. Last year with the Dash, Ynoa recoded a 2.61 earned run average in 28 relief appearances. He converted all six of his save opportunities and whiffed 40 in 38.0 innings of work.

A longtime Oakland farmhand, Ynoa battled several significant injuries. Tommy John surgery cost the Dominican Republic native most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons, while he also suffered a significant shoulder injury in 2013. With Winston-Salem in 2015, Ynoa endured a pair of trips to the disabled list. Chicago acquired Ynoa from the Athletics as part of the Jeff Samardzija trade in advance of the 2015 season.

As a result, Winston-Salem has graduated 340 players to the Major Leagues, with 32 of them coming since the nickname change to Dash prior to the 2009 season. All but one of those players have earned their initial call-up with the White Sox, Winston's parent club. This impressive list includes left-handers Carlos Rodon and Chris Sale, both of whom are now important parts of the White Sox starting rotation.

Ynoa, who will wear number 66 with the White Sox, takes the spot of outfielder Adam Eaton, who was placed on the Paternity List. His wife Katie gave birth to the couple's first child on Saturday.

The Dash conclude their four-game series at Lynchburg at 2 p.m. Sunday before a three-game set at Myrtle Beach. The club's home opener is set for 7 p.m. this Thursday against the Salem Red Sox, and it is a Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday, with $1 beers through the seventh inning.
