Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - A pair of goals by Richmond Kickers forward Jason Yeisley and a key save by goalkeeper Travis Worra off of a penalty shot opportunity was enough for the Kickers to earn a 3-0 victory against Wilmington Hammerheads FC at City Stadium Friday evening.

The Kickers, who entered the game with two draws under their belt in the early goings of the 2015 USL campaign, wasted little time getting their offense involved in the match, led by the performance of Yeisley.

Four minutes into the match, Kickers midfielder Brian Ownby drove the ball down the right side of the Wilmington zone, sending an aerial ball across the face of the Hammerheads goal, finding Yeisley on the run. A first time shot by Yeisley sailed past Wilmington goalkeeper Larry Jackson and elevated the Kickers to an early 1-0 lead.

Fans looking for more offense did not have to wait long as Yeisley found himself in the right place at the right time in the 25th minute. Thanks to an accurate through ball from Richmond midfielder Owusu, Yeisley was able to carry the ball into the Wilmington zone and leap over a defender to gain space in Hammerheads' 18-yard box.

After getting the ball settled, Yeisley fired off another fast one-time shot, beating the Wilmington goalkeeper to his rights side and giving Richmond a two-goal lead, which the Kickers were able to carry into halftime.

Once the second half started, Wilmington attempted to respond to Richmond's offense, including a penalty shot attempt by the Hammerheads in the 79th minute. The shot, taken by Wilmington forward Sunny Jane, was saved and redirected out of Richmond's penalty box by goalkeeper and D.C. United loanee Travis Worra, allowing the Kickers defense to clear the ball away from danger.

In the final minute of the match, Richmond tallied one more goal to close out Wilmington, thanks to the efforts of Kickers forward Eli Garner. After settling the ball, Garner was able to drive forward inside the Wilmington box and challenge the Hammerheads goalkeeper, firing a shot that beat Johnson to the left side, giving Richmond a 3-0 win and Worra his first clean sheet of the 2015 USL campaign.

Richmond remains undefeated through the first three games of the 2015 USL season, with a record of 1-0-2 and a total of five points.

The Kickers will be back at City Stadium on Saturday April 18 at 7:00 p.m. as they take on Charlotte Independence. Gates for the match open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com.
