Real Monarchs News Release
REAL MONARCHS HOST COLORADO SPRINGS SATURDAY 4:30p MT AT RIO TINTO STADIUM IN USL SIDE'S FIRST-EVER WEEKEND HOME GAME Justen Glad Nets Club's First Ever Home Goal in 1-1 Draw--> SANDY, Utah (Thursday, April 9, 2015) - Real Monarchs continue its inaugural season home slate Saturday, welcoming Colorado Springs Switchbacks to Rio Tinto Stadium for a 4:30 p.m. MT kickoff. The club's first-ever weekend home match - which concludes right as parent-club RSL kicks off at Kansas City - will be broadcast live on RealMonarchs.com and the Real Monarchs YouTube page, with Landon Southwick & Shawn Blymiller calling the match. Tickets still available at www.RealMonarchs.com/tickets.
Real Monarchs (0-1-2, 2 points, 5th West) drew 1-1 at home Wednesday night in a cold and rainy match against Portland Timbers 2 (2-0-1, 1st West), who raced out to an early lead just 6 minutes in on a near-post blast by FW Fatawu Safiu. Twenty minutes later, DF Justen Glad - one of seven players loaned to the Monarchs earlier this week from RSL - equalized with a blistering header on the six following a pinpoint free kick from Monarchs captain Lucas Baldin . Glad's goal came in his first competitive match in nearly five months, as the former RSL-AZ academy product underwent a menisectomy late in RSL's 2014 season, delaying his first full professional campaign. See/hear post-game reaction from Glad HERE and Baldin HERE.

Monarchs History v. Colorado Springs Switchbacks
While Saturday's match is the first officially between the two clubs, #RMSLC faced the Switchbacks in the final preseason exhibition in mid-March in Grand Junction, Colo., earning a 1-0 win on a classic team goal, with a litany of passes culmating in a score by MF Ricardo Velazco. Monarchs goalkeepers Victor Rodriguez and Eric Osswald shared the clean sheet, with 45 minutes each between the pipes.
Monarchs Learn 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Path
Earlier Wednesday, hours prior to the club's inaugural home match, U.S. Soccer released the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup pairings for the First and Second Round, delineating the path for the Monarchs as well as fellow USL teams. Head Coach Freddy Juarez (WATCH his Wednesday post-game press conference) and his team learned that it will enter America's oldest tourney on Wednesday, May 20, against the winner of the Brooklyn Italians (NPSL) and the Long Island Rough Riders (PDL), who face each other one week prior on May 13. Should favored Long Island win, the Monarchs will have to travel across the country for the club's first-ever Open Cup game; if the Brooklyn Italians manage the upset, Rio Tinto Stadium will host the Monarchs against RSL President Bill Manning's former team, with whom he won the Open Cup title back in 1991. RSL and the other 16 U.S.-based MLS teams will enter the tourney on June 16/17, at the Fourth Round / Round of 32 stage.
Utah Native Garrett Losee Returns from Suspension
Utah native and Monarchs MF Garrett Losee returns to the mix after serving a one-game suspension for Wednesday's home opener, due to the pair of yellow cards received on March 29 at Portland. Provo-born Losee was one of over 300 participants in an open tryout Real Monarchs held in early March, and was awarded a contract with the team during on March 6, 2015.
FW Emery Welshman Injured During International Duty
Guyanese International Emery Welshman returned from International Duty last week having missed the Real Monarchs' first two road matches, and will likely have to sit out a second consecutive home game due to a knee injury suffered while representing his country. Welshman started the final international friendly for the Golden Jaguars in their 2-0 win over Grenada, which followed a 2-0 win over St. Lucia earlier in the week. During the MLS preseason at the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson, Welshman scored a spectacular goal on a curling shot against Sporting Kansas City, this week's road opponent for RSL.
