Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. (April 10, 2015) - The Orange County Blues continue to strengthen their defense by signing defender/midfielder Romeo Filipovic. The 6 foot 3 player is expected to be an intimidating presence on the defensive side of the ball.
Born in Germany, Filipovic spent his youth career with Schalke 04, Rot-Weiss Essen, and Duisburg. He began his professional career with the Romania Divizia A team Universitatea Craiova in 2006. In his career, Filipovic has also shown a nose for the goal. The now 29-year-old Croatian moved to SV Spittal where he appeared in 13 games and scored two goals, before moving to Jordan's Al-Ahli where he also scored four goals in 16 games. In 2008, Filipovic signed with FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's top clubs. During his short time with the Scottish First Division team Ayr United, Filipovic scored both goals in a friendly 2-2 draw against Celtic FC. The defender has also played with Bontang, Karlovac, Sloboda Tuzla, Koper, NK Imotski and Olimpia Grudziadz.
"I feel very good and positive," commented Filipovic. "I am looking forward to a great season with the club. I want to help lead the team to a championship. I believe we have a very good quality of players, especially young guys."
The Blues next face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 Sunday, April 12th. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.
