Yard Goats Stumble in Road Trip Opener

Portland, ME- Portland right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz hurled eight scoreless innings and was backed by ten runs, including a pair of home runs as Portland defeated the Hartford Yard Goats by the score of 10-0 on Thursday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. It was the first game of a two-city seven-game road trip. The Boston Red Sox affiliate got a solo home run and RBI double in Josh Ockimey's first two at-bats of the game and then scored three runs in back-to-back innings off Yard Goats starter Ryan Castellani to take the opener of the four game series. Ockimey, went 3-3 with a home run, double, 3 RBI and scored twice. The Yard Goats were held to just four hits, two singles, a double and a triple.
The Sea Dogs scored the first run of the ballgame as Josh Ockimey homered off Yard Goats starter Ryan Castellani to start the second inning. The Portland first baseman led off the second inning by homering into the right field pavilion seats, his 13th of the season giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. Ockimey then cracked an RBI double in his next at-bat with two outs in the third inning making it 2-0 Sea Dogs.
Portland added three runs in the fourth inning and three more runs in the fifth. In the fourth inning, Deiner Lopez' RBI single scored Johnny Bladel to make it 3-0 and John Nunez came home on a throwing error and it was quickly 4-0. Jeremy Rivera's sacrifice fly capped the scoring to make it a 5-0 game. The Sea Dogs scored another three runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a two RBI single by Jhon Nunez and it was 8-0 Portland.
The Yard Goats continue their four game weekend series against the Sea Dogs at 7:00 on Friday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com. The Yard Goats will return to Dunkin' Donuts Park for their next homestand on Thursday, July 26th at 7:05 PM and will host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
