Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron's Mark Mathias lifted a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in the game-winning run and secure a thrilling, 12-11 RubberDucks victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

The RubberDucks (57-40) rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Bobby Bradley led off the inning with a long home run to center off Sam Wolff (0-1) to tie the game, 11-11. It was Bradley's 20th homer of the year and tied him with New Hampshire's Cavan Biggio for the EL lead. Connor Marabell followed with a single to right field that rolled under the glove of Luigi Rodriguez for a two-base error. With Marabell at third base, the Flying Squirrels (46-49) brought in Pat Ruotolo to face Mathias, who lifted a fly ball to Rodriguez, plenty deep enough for Marabell to tag and score for a 12-11 victory. It was the eighth walk-off win this season for the RubberDucks.

Mound Presence

Akron closer Argenis Angulo (2-3) earned the win after pitching into tough luck in the top of the ninth. He inherited a 10-7 lead, but allowed a four-run rally that started when Tyler Krieger slipped in center field while trying to catch a routine fly ball off the bat of Ali Castillo. An infield single, double, sacrifice fly and two-run homer followed, giving Richmond an 11-10 lead. Sean Brady started for the Ducks and allowed seven runs on eight hits in his six innings.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks cracked open a 7-7 tie by scoring three runs in the eighth off Wolff. Logan Ice belted a two-run double and Krieger added an RBI single to give the Ducks a 10-7 lead. Krieger's hit extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Marabell whacked a long home run to center in the sixth, his 10thand one of his three hits on the night. Willi Castro also homered for the Ducks when he blasted a two-run shot in the fourth.
