BOWIE, Md. - The Erie SeaWolves used a five-run first inning to cruise to a 7-3 victory in game one of the four-game series Thursday night in front of 2,382 at Prince George's Stadium.
The SeaWolves (46-50) scored all seven runs in the first four innings, with six Erie batters scoring with two outs. After the hot start, the Baysox bullpen held a potent Erie offense in check. Making his return to Bowie, LHP Cameron Ming allowed one earned run on five hits with a trio of strikeouts over 4.1 innings in his second career Double-A appearance. RHP Michael Kelly entered in the seventh and threw three scoreless innings, striking out four Howler batters.
Offensively, the Baysox (43-53) received hits from seven of the nine batters and cracked the scoreboard in the fifth inning. With one away, Ryan Mountcastle grounded an infield single down the third base line. The ensuing throw from Josh Lester went awry, allowing Jaycob Brugman to trot home and cut the deficit to 7-1.
Aderlin Rodriguez retook sole possession of the team lead in RBI two innings later, lining a two-run double down the left field line to score Erick Salcedo and Corban Joseph (who recorded his ninth three-hit game of the season). For the Baysox first baseman, the double plated RBI No. 48 and 49, and gave Rodriguez five RBI in his last three games, dating back to the Altoona series.
The Baysox look to even the series Friday night at 7:05 p.m., when LHP Keegan Akin looks to become the first Eastern League pitcher to reach the 10-win mark. Friday night is also when Bowie Celebrates Bowie, with the Baysox donning jerseys in honor of David Bowie's "Major Tom" character. A silent auction on the jerseys will also occur during the game.
