Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, CT - Somerset starting pitcher Glenn Otto recorded 14 strikeouts over 5.1 scoreless innings and earned the win as the Patriots defeated the Yard Goats 11-1 on Thursday evening at Dunkin' Donuts Park. The right-hander retired 16 of 18 batters faced while sending Hartford to its third straight loss. Hartford pitching combined for 14 strikeouts against Somerset batters. Patriots outfielder Michael Beltre had four hits and drove in a pair of runs. It was the third game of a six-game series against the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate.
The Patriots scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch in the first inning off Hartford starter Matt Dennis. Somerset then put together a four-run second inning including three consecutive doubles by Oliver Dunn, Max McDowell and Aaron Palensky to make it 5-0. The Yankees affiliate added two more in the third inning and knocked Dennis from the game.
Meanwhile, Otto was impressive for the Patriots and struck out eight of the first nine batters faced and had ten strikeouts over four innings. The Yard Goats got their first hit on a double by Matt McLaughlin in the fifth inning. After the hit, Otto struck out three of the final four batters faced before leaving the game with one out in the sixth inning.
The Yard Goats scored their only run in the seventh inning as Matt Hearn knocked in Matt McLaughlin who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Hearn, who had two hits in the game, smashed a single into right field with two outs.
