Yard Goats Sink Sea Dogs for 4th Consecutive Win and Move into First Place in Standing

Portland, Maine- Infielder Isaac Collins cranked the go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning, leading the Yard Goats to a 5-2 victory against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. The Yard Goats have won four consecutive games, and 15 of their past 20 to move into first place for the first time since June 11, 2019. Collins led off the fourth inning with his first Double-A homer, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Yard Goats a 3-2 lead. Jimmy Herron followed with a two-run triple, as Hartford scored three runs in the sixth inning. Reliever Trent Fennell fired three scoreless innings for the win, and Ezequiel Tovar hit his team-leading 12th home run.

The Sea Dogs scored the first run of the game in the first inning with a two-out rally against Hartford starter Michael Baird. After Baird retired the first two batters, Pedro Castellanos singled and Izzy Wilson walked. Kole Cottom followed with an RBI single, scoring Castellanos and giving Portland a 1-0 lead.

Portland starter Brett Kennedy retired the first nine Yard Goats to come to the plate before Daniel Montano led off the fourth inning with a double. Ezequiel Tovar then belted a two-run homer down the right field line, giving the Yard Goats a 2-1 lead. The Red Sox affiliate tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as Christian Koss homered above the Maine Monster in left field and it was 2-2.

The Yard Goats scored three runs off Kennedy in the sixth inning. Isaac Collins started the rally with a solo home run to make it 3-2 Hartford. The hit parade continued as Montano doubled, Tovar dropped a bunt single and then Jimmy Herron belted one off the centerfield fence for a two-RBI double, scoring Montano and Tovar and it was 5-2. PJ Poulin pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his fifth save.

The Yard Goats and Sea Dogs will play the second of a six-game series on Wednesday night (6:00 PM) at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine. LHP Nick Bush will start for the Yard Goats and LHP Chris Murphy will start for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, June 14th against the Akron RubberDucks.
