PORTLAND FINISHES WITH A WIN, BUT DROPS SERIES TO NEW HAMPSHIRE - The Sea Dogs shutout the Fisher Cats for the second consecutive game, 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Portland dropped the series, four games to two against New Hampshire. On Sunday, Portland opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning against New Hampshire starter Trent Palmer. Izzy Wilson led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a groundout from Tyreque Reed. Christian Koss advanced Wilson to third on another groundout. Kole Cottam stepped into the batter's box and took a base hit to right, driving in Wilson, handing the Sea Dogs the lead 1-0. The Sea Dogs offense kept at it in the top of the third inning with Palmer still on the mound. With one out in the inning, Hamilton launched a solo homer over the wall in right-center. It was his fifth long ball of the year and increased Portland's lead to 2-0. The Sea Dogs bullpen kept things scoreless the rest of the way. Victor Santos tossed 5.0 scoreless innings and Wallace took over for him with a two scoreless, two strikeout inning. Caleb Simpson came on to pitch the eighth, keeping New Hampshire scoreless while walking one. The Fisher Cats threatened in the bottom of the ninth against Sea Dogs reliever Joan Martinez. Runners reached second and third, but Martinez struck out the final batter to put away their hopes with his first save of the year, securing a 2-0 win.

NO RUNS ALLOWED IN SIXTEEN INNINGS - Portland's pitching staff has tossed 16.0 shutout innings, recording back-to-back 2-0 victories. Kyle Hart, Dylan Spacke and Brendan Nail combined for the first shutout in game two of the doubleheader Saturday night, allowing just two hits. Jake Thompson, Victor Santos, Jacob Wallace, Caleb Simpson and Joan Martinez combined for the shutout in Sunday afternoon allowing just four-hits in nine innings.

HIGH-SPEED HAMILTON - David Hamilton recorded his sixth triple of the year last week, sending the ball into the rightfield corner. He leads the Eastern League in triples and is tied for third through all levels of Minor League Baseball. Hamilton also has 22 stolen bases, most in the Eastern League. He has the second-most stolen bases in Double-A, behind Esteury Riuz who has 37 with San Antonio (San Diego Padres).

WELCOME TO PORTLAND - Prior to tonight's game, the Boston Red Sox promoted infielder Ceddanne Rafaela from A+ Greenville Drive. Ranked as the No. 22 prospect according to Baseball America, he was batting .330 with 17 doubles, 4 triples, 9 home runs and 36 RBI with the Drive. Last season, he was named Red Sox Minor League Defensive Player of the Year. He made 51 starts in CF, 17 at 3B, 15 at SS, 9 in LF, 6 at 2B, and 1 in RF. Rafaela made his 1st career appearances at each OF position, recording 9 OF assists and posting a .992 fielding percentage (1 E/132 TC). In a corresponding move, the Red Sox have sent infielder Brandon Howlett to Greenville.

THIS DATE IN SEA DOGS HISTORY - June 6, 2021: Matthew Kent, Zack Kelly, Jake Thompson and Jose Adames combine for a shutout as Portland beat the Harrisburg Senators, 2-0.

PITCHING MATCHUP - RHP Brett Kennedy will make his second start of the season tonight for the Sea Dogs. He made his first start of the season June 1st at New Hampshire and tossed 6.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out four. The two runs came in off a bases loaded walk and bases loaded HBP.
