Arkansas Travelers News Release
Little Rock, Ark. - Alex Yarbrough provided the highlight with a three-run triple in the fifth inning as the Arkansas Travelers posted a 4-3 victory over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to even their four-game series at 1-1. Orangel Arenas (3-1) held the Naturals to one run in five innings for the win, and Cam Bedrosian threw another dominating inning with three strikeouts for the save (4).
Early on the Naturals had opportunities to take the lead on Arenas with three hits, two walks and a hit batter in the first two innings. Arenas got out of the first inning when Orlando Calixte grounded to second base. The Naturals loaded the bases on Arenas with one out in the second inning. He responded by striking out Whit Merrifield and got Lane Adams to fly out leaving three runners.
NW Arkansas got aggressive on the bases in an attempt to take the lead in the fourth inning as Edinson Rincon and Juan Graterol hit back-to-back singles with one out. Rincon took third base when Ethan Chapman grounded into a fielder's choice. With Merrifield batting, Chapman took off for third base. When catcher Anderson De La Rosa threw to second, shortstop Vance Albitz cut off the throw and fired home to nail Rincon for the third out.
Still the Naturals scored first when Merrifield led off the fifth with his fifth home run of the season.
The Travs responded quickly after being shutout for four innings by Tim Melville, who did not allow a runner past second until the fifth. The big rally began with a walk to De La Rosa, which Albitz followed with a double to the left-field gap. Melville walked Andy Workman to load the bases before striking out Adam Melker. Yarbrough stepped up in a 2-for-20 slump and deposited an 0-1 pitch down the right field line scoring all three runners. Then Zach Borenstein doubled over Chapman's head in left field to knock in Yarbrough for a 4-1 lead.
Buddy Boshers worked two scoreless innings of relief, but tired in the eighth allowing a two-run single by Rincon. David Carpenter relieved, and Rincon tried to steal second base but was pegged by De La Rosa. Carpenter concluded the inning, after a walk and wild pitch put the tying run at second base, when Chapman struck out.
Bedrosian put the game away quickly with three strikeouts on 12 pitches.
Time of game was 2:59 and the paid crowd was 3,188.
Wednesday morning features the third game of the Travs vs. Naturals series at Dickey-Stephens Park. Each club throws a left hander with Kramer Sneed (3-3, 3.72) pitching for the Travs against NW Arkansas's Sam Selman (2-2, 2.83). First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
