Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS (MAY 14, 2014) - The Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, announced their second roster alteration in three days on Wednesday as infielder Michael De Leon departs for Single-A Hickory while fellow Guilder Rodriguez returns from Triple-A Round Rock.
At 17 years and 117 days of age, De Leon became the youngest player in RoughRiders history when he started at shortstop on May 11 against the Corpus Christi Hooks. The teenager from the Dominican Republic batted 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. He also struck out and grounded into a double play in his Double-A debut.
In the field, De Leon put out the first two batters of the game and finished with seven putouts on the afternoon. In the ninth inning, the 6-foot-1 160 pound prospect turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
The game on May 11 marked De Leon's professional debut in the Rangers organization. He signed with Texas on July 2, 2013 and did not see game action that season. The right-hander began the 2014 season in extended spring training and joined the 'Riders on May 8. He appeared in one game with Frisco.
Rodriguez, 30, rejoins the RoughRiders after a three-week stint with Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers assigned the native of Venezuela to the Express on April 25. Rodriguez appeared in nine games in the Pacific Coast League and recorded five hits in 30 at-bats for a .167 batting average. He hit one double, scored four runs and registered one RBI. The switch-hitter walked four times and struck out five times.
Rodriguez batted .222 through ten games and 36 at-bats with the RoughRiders in April. His numbers included six runs on eight hits with two driven in, six walks and nine strikeouts.
The RoughRiders' roster is now situated at the 25-man Texas League limit.
Frisco continues its eight-game road swing on Wednesday night in Midland at 6:30 p.m. The team returns to Dr Pepper Ballpark on Wednesday, May 21 to welcome the Tulsa Drillers at 7:05 p.m.
