Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
TAMPA, FL - In the rubber match of a three game series, The Dunedin Blue Jays (8-7) fell to the Tampa Yankees (9-6) with a 10-4 loss. RHP James Kaprielian (W, 2-1), the Yankees top pitching prospect, allowed two runs over six innings while striking out nine Jays.
The Yanks struck first in the bottom of the second when speed gave them their first two runs. After a walk and a single, an 3B Emilio Guerrero throwing error plated 3B Miguel Andujar. An RF Austin Aune double play ball brought the second run home.
Kaprielian's only mistake came at the hands of DH Michael De La Cruz in his first plate appearance of 2016. Cruz, who was recalled from extended spring training earlier in the day, launched a two-run home run to right field to tie the game at two in the third.
From there, however, the Yankees took over by tagging RHP Kyle Westwood (L, 0-1) for seven runs in 4.2 innings. Four straight singles from the top of the order for Tampa in the third gave them a 4-2 lead. They then used three Westwood walks and an Aune single in the fifth to plate three more.
The Jays had their comeback opportunity in the top of the eighth when the loaded up the bases. 1B Ryan McBroom drove in a run with a single to make it an 8-4 game. With the next two batters as the tying runs at the plate, RHP Dillon McNamara induced a popup from Guerrero and struck out CF D.J. Davis to end the threat. Shortly after, SS Jorge Mateo added his first home run of the season to extend the lead to six.
The Jays hit the road for a three game set with Lakeland beginning on Friday night. RHP Conner Greene makes the start for Dunedin, and RHP Endrys Briceno will pitch for Lakeland.
