
Tampa Yankees to Host Autism Heroes Night

Tampa, FL - With 1 in 68 children in the United States diagnosed with some form of autism, the Tampa Yankees are lending a hand to offer awareness and support to this cause in 2016. The Tampa Yankees will join together with the Art of Autism to help raise funds for the first Artistas Development Center. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 5pm and gates will open at 4pm.
On April 30th, the Tampa Yankees will be wearing superhero theme jerseys in support of autism awareness month during the second game of the scheduled doubleheader. The jerseys will be auction off during the game and the winners will be given the opportunity to receive them from the coach or player that wore them shortly after the final out of the night. In addition to the jersey auction proceeds, the Tampa Yankees will donate a portion of the ticket sales from the event.
After 22 years in the corporate world, Vicky Westra found herself in a new career position. Westra opened the first Artistas Cafe in 2011. Artistas Cafe is the first of its kind. The Cafe employs a front line team of members whom have all been diagnosed with autism. Because of the success of the Artistas Cafe program, Westra's vision has gone further with the goal of establishing the first Artistas Development Center which would provide job skills, training and internships to assist individuals with autism and ultimately, achieve successful employment.
