STATEN ISLAND--The Staten Island Yankees defeated the Aberdeen Ironbirds 8-3 to win the third and final game of the three-game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark on Wednesday.

Outfielder Canaan Smith broke out with a home run and four RBIs to lead the offense alongside infielders Eduardo Torrealba and Kyle Gray who each had two RBIs in the win.

Smith's three-run home run in the second inning capped off a four-run inning for the Baby Bombers.

Starter Juan DePaula threw a season-high 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on his way to picking up the win.

Aberdeen scored all of their runs in the sixth inning to cut the Yankee lead to 4-3, but RBI hits from Torrealba and Smith extended the Yankee lead to 6-3 before Gray's two-run home run in the eighth put the game out of reach.

For Gray, it was his second professional home run of his career. He is now up to seven RBIs this season.

In relief, Brooks Kriske was stellar going a career-high 3.1 innings in relief to pick up his third save of the season while striking out three Ironbirds.

The Yankees return to action on Thursday night as they welcome the Connecticut Tigers for the first of a three-game set at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7p.m.
